Business Central 2024 Wave 2: Innovations in the report design

The latest release wave of Business Central has once again brought various new features in different areas. The report layouts have also been optimized again.

Since the last Business Central version was released, a new add-in has made it possible to use extended functions that Word provides for document layouts. These improvements reduce the time required to design reports and enable more users to use them.

Report documents in Business Central are used, for example, to send customers or suppliers a document such as a quote, order or invoice. Some new functionalities are now available for this purpose.

Layout innovations with Word Add-in

With a Word add-in newly developed by Microsoft and provided via AppSource, empty tables, columns and rows as well as field values with 0.00 can now be easily hidden.

In addition, a report schema can now be exported as a user-defined XML file and imported into existing Word files on the “Report layouts” page. The XML file facilitates the conversion of RDL layouts or Word files provided by customers into Word layouts for reports.

In addition, comments can now be inserted into a report layout. These are only visible in the layout itself and are not displayed in print.
