Microsoft has published this years spring release of Dynamics 365 Business Central. The new version once again includes various new functions and improvements.
In addition to a number of enhancements to the application and the development environment as well as a generally improved user experience, Business Central 2025 Wave 1 focuses on areas such as supply chain management, sustainability reporting and e-documents. Some interesting innovations have also been announced for the coming months regarding artificial intelligence with Microsoft Copilot.
New application features and optimized user experience
The first release wave 2025 improves the handling of general business processes. To this end, the application will once again be equipped with a number of functional innovations. For example, Field Service can now be integrated with service management and item availability can be displayed in Field Service work orders. It will also be possible to analyze subscription billing data with Power BI reports and post foreign currency adjustments to accounts for unrealized gains and losses.
A preview display of PDF attachments directly in the web client, an autofill function and optimized use of screen density on the web also ensure an optimized user experience in the new version.
Optimized Supply Chain Management
Supply chain management in Business Central supports companies in optimizing their processes and improving overall efficiency. It offers a range of functions that cover a wide variety of requirements, from procurement and production to sales and logistics.
For optimized supply chain management, for example, the spring 2025 version offers the option of using an extended layout for customer documents for service management and adding additional columns to various pages. In addition, it will be possible to block items or variants from production output, avoid document number errors when posting project journals and handle production output with warehouse put-aways. The option to use optimized product design tools and document attachments in production has also been announced.
More artificial intelligence with Copilot
With the first wave of releases this year, the AI functionalities in Business Central are also being expanded again. For example, the first Copilot function for marketing text suggestions will be improved, which will further increase productivity. Copilot Chat will also soon provide more information about the use of installed add-on apps. For a quicker overview of company data, Copilot will also soon be able to summarize a data set in a few short sentences. An agent for sales orders can also be used to automate order acceptance in sales and improve order item reconciliation with Copilot.
Sustainable compliance with Business Central
The sustainability functionalities in Business Central make it possible to achieve a positive environmental and social impact, increase operational efficiency, meet regulatory requirements and contribute to a more sustainable future.
In the future, the value chain for Scope 3 in sustainability for assembly and transfers, in the purchase process and in manufacturing can be started in Business Central, for example. In addition, default sustainability values can be specified for various entities, sustainability data can be captured with general journals and water and waste management can be used sustainably. Integrated ESG reporting can also be used in Business Central, taxonomy elements for ESRS and other standards can be activated and a CSRD preparation report can be generated.
Innovations in the area of E-Documents
Due to the Growth Opportunities Act, which came into force in January, and the associated obligation to issue e-documents, this topic remains highly relevant in Business Central. The new version therefore also offers a number of innovations in this area.
For example, Business Central will soon be able to send electronic receipts simultaneously via a service and by email, process them in two steps and use them with Power Automate and other solutions with APIs. The new version will also make it possible to generate multiple incoming e-documents for multiple attachments, create e-documents from posted sales invoices and repair unposted purchase credits with e-documents.
In addition, reminders and finance charges can be exported as PEPPOL files and embedded attachments can be automated in PEPPOL. Incoming e-documents can also be previewed before processing.
Further innovations and optimizations
In addition to the innovations listed above, the technical and administrative area in Business Central will also be optimized again. Improvements for reporting and data analysis have also been announced, for example extended financial reporting functions and analyses for production as well as the option of accessing report and requirement metadata in Word layouts.
