With the current release wave, Dynamics 365 Business Central has once again introduced innovations and optimizations in various areas. The general user experience has also been improved again.
For the easiest and most convenient use and increased productivity at work, Business Central has been equipped with a preview of PDF attachments directly in the web client, optimized screen estate usage on the web, the ability to adjust the width of the FactBox pane and several other improvements to the user interface.
Preview PDF attachments directly in the web client
With a new function, PDF attachments can now be opened directly in the Business Central web client without having to download them first. The files are displayed in preview mode in a special viewer experience, similar to the print preview function, and can also be downloaded from there as a PDF file at any time. The new function works automatically for all areas of Business Central (e.g. for document attachments and incoming documents).
Optimized standard page size in narrow mode in the web client
A new feature will ensure optimized screen usage in future, even if pages are displayed in different modes. This makes it even easier to work with the Business Central web client on large screens, thereby increasing productivity and efficiency in the web client. The new function includes the following adjustments:
• Optimized default page size in narrow mode
• Improved sizing and animation of the FactBox pane in narrow mode. The FactBox pane is added to the page width so that the width of the main content area remains the same when expanding and collapsing the FactBox.
• Better proportions between field labels and values in narrow mode.
Changing the width of the FactBox area
In Business Central, it is now possible to resize the width of the FactBox pane on all pages with FactBoxes in order to better display the details. The function includes the following features:
• Changing the FactBox size is possible within certain proportions, so that the main part of the page remains visible.
• The content in the FactBox pane adapts flexibly to fill the available space.
• The size of the FactBox is saved in the browser memory per user and page (like other simple adjustments).
• Double-clicking on the divider resets the size of the FactBox pane to the default size.
• The FactBox pane has also been given a new layout with curved corners.
Role Explorer / Report Explorer: tooltip & open page
• Role and Report Explorer have been updated to display page and report descriptions (if provided) as extended tooltips.
• A new option has been added to the Role and Report Explorer to open pages and reports in a separate window without closing the Explorer.
Further improvements to the user interface
In order to manage and process tasks more efficiently, some general optimizations of the user interface now also provide additional flexibility and productivity:
• The Power BI Embedded experience has been optimized with adjusted controls and an updated design.
• The search field in the environment and company picker has been supplemented with a search icon and instruction text.
• A new divider has been added between system and application actions in list context menus.
• Updated the icon for prompt guides in the chat with Copilot.
