With Microsoft Copilot, certain fields in Business Central can now be filled automatically. For this purpose, Copilot makes suggestions for meaningful values for empty, editable fields on card and document pages.
Manual data entry in Dynamics 365 Business Central can sometimes be very time-consuming, both in occasional and daily use of Business Central, where record after record has to be entered during the working day. With Microsoft Copilot, these processes can now be simplified and accelerated. The AI tool now automatically suggests suitable field values, which can simply be retained instead of entering them manually.

Autofill is a new feature of Copilot in Business Central, which offers the following options:
• When creating a new record or editing an existing record, Copilot can suggest values for some of the editable fields on the page.
• Autofill is available for fields (but not rows or columns) on card and document pages (e.g. on customers, sales orders, items or even your own customized pages).
• The suggestions are based on company data and can be based on recently or frequently used values or an intelligent selection from values in a lookup or option field. They can also be generated by AI depending on the field and context.
• Copilot finally suggests the value and gives the option to check where the suggestion comes from. The user always retains control and the decision as to whether this value should be applied, rejected or replaced.

• At a later stage in this wave, Copilot will also offer the option to automatically search the web for further information and provide suggestions for customer or supplier contact details, product codes and similar fields that normally contain public information.
Examples of field suggestions by Microsoft Copilot:
Debit card
o Payment term: Suggestion “Net 30 days”, because this was used most frequently for this customer.
o Default warehouse location: Suggestion “Main warehouse”, based on the last orders.
Item master
o Base unit: Suggestion “piece”, as this is the most common unit for this item type.
o Item group: Suggestion “Office supplies”, derived from the category context.
Sales order
o Salesperson code: Default to the sales employee “Miller” who was last responsible for similar customers.
o Delivery condition: Proposal “FOB” because this is the default in the history.
Autofill can already be tested in the preview version since March 2025 – the full range of functions is currently only supported in English.
