Supply Chain Management in Business Central can significantly support companies in optimizing their processes and improving overall efficiency. To this end, it offers a range of functions that cover a wide variety of requirements – from supply management and production to sales and logistics. With the most recently released spring version, these SCM functionalities have been expanded again.

Dynamics Business Central 365 already has extensive functions for supply management in sales, purchasing, invoice management, inventory and warehouse management, project management, service order management and production. With each new release, the options in these areas are expanded for greater productivity.

Business Central provides tools for managing the entire supply chain process, including inventory management, order fulfillment and demand forecasting. These enable companies to create and manage orders, track stock levels and ensure on-time deliveries. The system also supports different supply chain methods, giving companies the flexibility to choose the most appropriate approach for their operations.

New functionalities with the spring version 2025

For optimized supply chain management, Business Central 2025 Wave 1 has once again been supplemented with several new functionalities – particularly in the areas of production and service. The following innovations and optimizations have been introduced:

Planning & Control
• Rescheduling of safety parameters: Automatic rescheduling of orders to comply with material and time buffers
• Canceling orders that have already been used: Cancel used orders retrospectively and create new ones
• Reopen completed production orders: Enable subsequent corrections even after completion

Material supply & output
• Activate overpicking: Additional material provision to avoid reordering
• Production output with warehouse storage: Automatically map goods receipt after completion in the warehouse
• Barcode printing from production orders: Generate labels directly on the order for faster identification
• Blocking of articles/variants: Stop production for quality issues or batch changes

Usability & Insights
• Improved user-friendliness: Intuitive menus and optimized workflows specifically for production
• “Edit in Excel” for book sheets: Customize production reporting, consumption and book. sheets directly in Excel
• More columns for better insights: Additional key figures in list views for detailed analyses

Cost accuracy & documentation
• Improved production costing: Allocation of material and overhead costs
• Manage document attachments: Store drawings, specifications and test reports centrally on the order

Service management
• Enhanced customer document layout: Modern, customizable design for all service documents
• Bundle service deliveries: Combine multiple service shipments into a single service invoice

Warehouse & logistics
• Parallel inventory posting: Allow multiple users to enter and exit stock at the same time
• Skip picking: Automatically skip warehouse picking for manual methods
• Project items with storage/retrieval: Map direct goods receipts for project requirements via document or storage processes
