Business Central 2025 Wave 1: More sustainability through new water and waste management

Since Business Central 2024 Wave 1, Dynamics 365 Business Central has had a new function with which the impact of business processes on the environment (e.g. CO2 consumption) can be recorded and prepared in reports for further use. This has been expanded in the current version with a new water and waste management function.

The latest version of Dynamics 365 Business Central has expanded the range of functions for tracking the ecological footprint of companies. To this end, water and waste factors have been added to the set screws for measuring sustainability. In this way, reporting can be made more comprehensive, particularly in the context of the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive).

The water and waste intensity factors and the formula for calculating them are stored in the Chart of Sustainability Accounts (see category and subcategory) and logged or posted via the “Sustainability Journals” or “Recurring Sustainability Journals”.

In addition to the factors and intensities of water and waste from the sustainability accounts, the information in the “Sustainability Journal” and the “Recurring Sustainability Journal” is enriched with information via the fields “Water/Waste Intensity Type” (Withdrawn, Discharged, Consumed, Recycled, Generated, Disposed, Recovered) and “Water Type” (Surface water, Sea water, Ground water, Third party water, Produced water). If, in addition to the standard options of the “Water/Waste Intensity Type” and “Water Type” fields, further selection options are to be tracked, these can be expanded via development customization.

In addition, the “Sustainability Goals” in Business Central have been expanded to include water and waste management so that these can be considered in future goal setting.
