As an extremely modern company, Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG Garmisch-Partenkirchen (BZB) has been pursuing a comprehensive digitalization strategy for some time. The company relies on a technically powerful combination of Dynamics 365 Business Central, DocuWare, and Qlik Sense – with prisma informatik GmbH as its experienced implementation partner.
Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG sees itself as a mountain railway company with a historic mission and responsibility for the future. The comprehensive digitalization strategy, which the extremely modern and forward-looking company is pursuing in all areas of its business, also focuses on the continuous modernization of its internal business management software.
To implement digitalization, BZB specifically sought a new partner that would support it in both the strategic orientation and operational implementation of future software projects and also further advance the processes already underway in this area – and found this partner in prisma informatik.
Modernized software landscape with a strong partner
BZB was already using Microsoft Dynamics NAV ERP software with a high degree of customization. As part of the project, this was updated to the newer version Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and returned to the standard version. The ERP system in the company focuses on finance and accounting, including cost accounting. The purchasing and sales modules are also used, and project-oriented postings are carried out for larger “internal projects”.
Various document management processes were already handled by DocuWare in the past. In conjunction with Business Central, the focus here is on accounts payable management and workflow-oriented process mapping. At BZB, for example, internal ordering processes are handled and approved via DocuWare.
Due to the lack of integration into the Dynamics 365 Business Central environment, these processes have often been very labor-intensive and time-consuming. With the introduction of the “Dynamics to DocuWare” interface developed by prisma, which conveniently connects DocuWare to Business Central, the various processes have been greatly simplified. The ultimate goal is to quickly make the remaining business areas paperless and to continue the digitization process throughout the entire company.
Qlik as a data hub in day-to-day business
To manage visitor activities, BZB also uses third-party systems such as “Hypersoft” for catering and “SKIDATA” as access systems for the skiing and hiking areas. Originally, these systems were not connected to the ERP system via interfaces either.
To solve this problem, prisma informatik GmbH finally positioned Qlik Sense as another strategic software component at BZB. Since then, it has been used in the company not only in its classic function for analyzing and evaluating company data, but also as a central data hub for automating daily and monthly closing activities with Hypersoft and SKIDATA.
Qlik thus forms the interface between Dynamics 365 Business Central and the respective third-party systems in order to prepare the accounting data on a daily basis and transfer it automatically to the ERP system as an accounting record. Manual transfer is therefore no longer necessary.
Mastering digital transformation on the shared path to the future
In this joint project, prisma informatik GmbH was able to provide Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG with optimal support for its digitalization strategy. In addition to updating the ERP system and integrating it with DocuWare via the corresponding interface, the positioning and connection of Qlik Sense and its use as a data hub within the company simplified and optimized numerous business processes in the software area.
BZB is now ideally equipped to meet the constant challenges of digitalization with state-of-the-art software. prisma informatik GmbH will also continue to provide BZB with advice and support on future-oriented topics such as sustainability and artificial intelligence.
