Business Central 2025 Wave 2: Replace permissions during import

Business Central permissions import

With the latest Business Central Fall 2025 version, it is now possible to replace permission sets with new ones during import instead of merging them as before.

A recent change in Dynamics 365 Business Central now makes it possible to overwrite the permission sets contained in an import file. Previously, the permissions from the import file were simply merged with the permissions already existing in the permission sets.

When creating or changing permission sets in Business Central, several test runs are often performed in a corresponding test system before the permissions are finally imported into the respective production environment.

The import result has not always been satisfactory and reliable, as the new user-defined permission sets were transferred to the production database, but the objects that were no longer required were not reduced or removed. Until now, the import of permission sets has basically only been “additive” and capable of improving “performance”, but not of adjusting it.

However, users usually want to completely overwrite the existing user-defined permission set while retaining the assignment to users/security groups. This will be possible in Business Central in the future.

The following YouTube video provides a brief overview of the optimized import of permission sets in Business Central:
