With the recent Business Central spring release, it is now possible for partners to configure custom AI agents that can simplify daily work.
Dynamics 365 Business Central now offers a variety of agents. These are AI-powered assistants whose capabilities go beyond the automation options of traditional automation tools. Unlike static workflows or hard-coded AL logic, these agents are capable of understanding general business objectives using natural language and translating them into concrete actions.
In this way, agents reduce manual effort by automating repetitive or complex tasks, allowing users to focus on important activities. They adapt to dynamic business scenarios and offer flexibility that conventional automation lacks. Agents always operate transparently. Every action is logged, permissions are strictly adhered to, and control remains with the user at all times.
What AI agents are available in Business Central?
In previous versions, Business Central has already introduced various AI agents to make business processes smarter and more efficient. For example, the Sales Order Agent simplifies order creation by converting natural language or email instructions into complete sales documents. The Payables Agent, on the other hand, optimizes supplier invoice processing by extracting key details from incoming invoices and matching them with purchase orders.
Configuring new AI agents in Business Central
Now it is also possible for partners to create own AI agents in Business Central without AL programming. The new user interface for configuring agents includes a simple editor that allows you to define, customize, and test the corresponding instructions. The new Agent Playground thus offers a low-risk environment for prototyping new AI agents tailored to individual business scenarios for customers. It uses the same functions as those used by the integrated Business Central agents.
This allows the to create and refine custom agents using natural language commands, define their behavior, test agent profiles and permissions, and safely experiment with Business Central data in a sandbox environment. With this, it is possible to explore new scenarios, test ideas, and build confidence in agents before moving to the production environment. Whether you want to automate repetitive business processes, optimize data processing, or gain proactive insights, the agent design experience provides the tools needed to easily bring your vision to life.
