A new feature now allows for more efficient management of document attachments by storing them in external systems such as SharePoint or Azure Blob Storage instead of in the Business Central database.
The new feature will optimize the storage of document attachments in Dynamics 365 Business Central by enabling attachments to be stored in external storage systems such as SharePoint, Azure Blob Storage, or Azure Files. As a result, large files are no longer stored directly in the Business Central database, but remain fully available in Business Central.
Business Central uses a unified framework for the external file storage of document attachments. Administrators can centrally configure storage locations and scenarios on a per-client basis. The attachments are then automatically saved and retrieved from the selected external storage.
Outsourcing large or frequently used files can reduce the growth of Business Central databases. This helps avoid additional storage costs in Business Central. The new feature also provides improved scalability and greater flexibility, particularly in document-intensive processes such as invoicing, purchasing, and project management.
The key benefits of the new feature:
• A new external document storage feature allows attachments to be stored outside the Business Central database, thereby reducing database growth and optimizing long-term scalability.
• Attachments can be added, viewed, and managed directly from Business Central pages without having to switch between systems or tools.
• SharePoint, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure Files are supported.
